Michalis Ilis

Guitar soloist and composer with a wide repertoire.

With his own arrangements and compositions as well as traditional guitar pieces, Michalis Ilis performes with brilliant tone and technique.

Michalis Ilis was born in Cyprus, where he grew up in a musical family with great love for art and music education. His grandfather, Pavlos Liasidis, was a well-known poet in Cyprus.
He started his musical journey as a member of the school choir at the early age of six and he continued through many different styles and instruments till today.
After a long period of musical training and studies in classical guitar, piano, double bass, byzantine music, music composition and music orchestration in Greece and England, he decided to become a guitar soloist and composer.
Michalis has a wide repertoire of classical guitar music, from well known Spanish, Italian, German and Latin American composers to Greek folk songs adapted for solo guitar. He has performed in many guitar concerts in Europe and in Canada.

Characteristic of Michalis playing is the ability to highlight the pieces in a tasteful and sensitive way, in combination with technique and interpretation.

This brilliant musician has also composed several pieces, many orchestral works, he has collaborated with theaters and choirs and he has conducted his own musical drama "1821, The Revolution of Cyprus" with symphonic orchestra, choir and actors.
